Sola: What Matters Most

This year is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, when Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the church door in Wittenberg. 500 years later, the world has changed a lot but the truth of the Gospel that the Reformation recovered still matters for us today!

  • Soli Deo Gloria

If there's one thing to take away from the Reformation 500 years ago, it's that it's all about Jesus. We have a tendency to want to steal the spotlight from God - or at the very least to share it with Him - But this final sola stops us in our tracks and takes away any glory we might try to grab for ourselves and gives it to God where it belongs.

  • Solus Christus

We naturally want to fight the idea of "Christ alone" because we really want to think that our salvation or our standing before God is, at least in some small way, something that we get to help with. But the good news is that it actually doesn't have anything to do with you! That means that your failures won't keep you away and your successes won't get you closer. It's all about Jesus - not

  • Sola Fide

We all have faith. At its most basic level, faith is trust in something. So what is it that you place your faith or your trust in? Everything else that we put our faith in places demands on us, but Jesus is different. Jesus demands nothing but gives us everything!

  • Sola Gratia

Our world works by rewarding what we do - you work harder, you get more. That's what we're used to and that's often how we think God works. But grace flies in the face of rewarding what we do because it's not about us - it's all about Jesus!

  • Sola Scriptura

Is the Bible an authority in your life or is the Bible the authority in your life? There's a world of difference between the two! What would it be like for our generation to embrace sola scriptura - to submit to its authority in our lives, even if it means going against our own wants and desires?
